Story of Empire of the Moghuls: Brothers at War

Brothers at War, the second book of Alex Rutherford's bestselling Empire of the Moghul series picks up the story from where the first book, Raiders from the North ended. Zahiruddin Muhammed Babur, descendant of both Timur and Chenghiz Khan had overcome a number of great reverses before stringing together a series of unlikely victories over much greater forces to realize his childhood dream of founding an empire in Hindustan. But, following his untimely death and his decision to entrust his entire legacy to his eldest of four sons means that the task of consolidating the fledging Moghul dynasty now falls to the young padishah (emperor) Humayun.

But the task of governing and maintaining control over the vast Moghul Empire stretching over thousands of miles from the snowy and arid mountains of Central Asia in the West to the flood plains of Bengal in the East is much harder than Humayun realizes. Not only does he have to contend with powerful provincial rulers like Bahadur Shah of Gujarat and rebellious vassals like Sher Shah in Bengal but also keep a watchful eye on his own jealous and ambitious half brothers--Kamran, Askari and Hindal.

Humayun has already proven himself in the battlefield fighting alongside Babur but he is in for a rude shock as he realizes that it will take a lot more than bodily sacrifices to hold onto Hindustan and be worthy of his father's faith in him.

Review of Empire of the Moghul: Brothers at War

In Empire of the Moghul: Brothers at War Alex Rutherford has proven beyond even the shadow of a doubt that he has mastered the tricky art of combining vast amount of historical knowledge with a fast and gripping narrative style to create a near-perfect historical fiction thriller complete with extensive and detailed description of the grandeur of the Moghul and Persian rulers, the customs and traditions of various races of India, Persia and Central Asia and of course the people. But, Rutherford's greatest talent lies in bringing to life famous historical characters like Humayun, Kamran, Sher Shah and Bairam Khan and their struggles in the battlefield, the imperial courts and even their private lives.

Overall Empire of the Moghul: Brothers at War is a great historical fiction calculated to not only give you immense pleasure but also to change your perception of history for good.
